Boxing Day, North Yorkshire

Making the most of the Christmas hols, we went to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, this afternoon.  My newly charged camera was sitting in the warm at home, forgotten in the Christmas chaos, so the iphone had to suffice. It was so icy at times it was hard to focus. Still, the sunlit reflections in the moon ponds were fantastic and the walk invigorating, so well worth the effort.

The place was crowded as we arrived, lots of dog walkers and families in Christmas hats, but the valley soon thinned out as the afternoon sun dipped and the intense cold crept in.

Besides restaurants and coffee shop, there were a couple of  stalls at the end of the walk selling mulled wine and pulled pork buns plus chicken and roast potatoes with rosemary among other things. They were clearly very welcome. Near the mill, for those who know it. Best part was a swift drive home on motorway, and hot mulled wine when we arrived.
