Haven’t been for years, and despite living in the general area Stowe landscape gardens have always seemed just out of reach. However, taking a shortcut home yesterday we ended up on the doorstep in nearby Buckingham clutching our NT membership cards.
The place was totally rearranged from our first visit – on a humid day there is now a long downhill walk to the gardens which have more decaying temples than you can photograph in one go, and 750 acres of parkland beyond the fence. This is Capability Brown landscape on a vast scale.
We hopped on the complementary shuttle back up the hill, & intend to return to sample the bits we couldn’t walk in one visit.
